ARC-Lake Data Visualization in Google Earth

ARC-Lake LSWT climatology data are available in a Google Earth file, covering all lakes. Currently only the twice-monthly climatology from day-time reconstructions are available in this format, via the link below. Additional Google Earth products will be made available in the future.

ARC-Lake Data at Google Fusion Tables

Overview

The ARC-Lake Database and a selection of lake-mean LSWT products are available at Google Fusion Tables. This enables the per-lake data to be searched by parameters such as latitude, longitude and country. It also provides basic plotting tools that allow visualizations of the database and the lake-mean climatology and time-series products.This page provides links to the data held at Google Fusion Tables and offers some examples of the data visualization methods.

Navigating / Manipulating the Database

The database may be searched by parameter using the "Filter" tool under the "View" menu. It is also possible to order the database by different parameters by clicking the column headers. Not all lakes and lake parameters can be displayed at once. The number of lakes visible is restricted to a maximum of 100. Use the "Prev" and "Next" buttons to the top right of the table to navigate through the lakes. Similarly, use the forward and back arrows in the top right of the table header bar to navigate through the parameters.

Creating Visualizations

Visualizations of the database are possible via the tools in the "Visualise" menu. To create visualizations as below the paramter "LAT_LON" should be used as the location and (in the case of Intensity Maps) "Plot" should be set to "Markers".

Lake-Mean Products

Lake-mean LSWT data products are also available for quick look visualizations. The data products available and their links are given in Table 1 (Climatology) and Table 2 (Time-series). These consist of LSWT climatology/time-series for each lake, with the ARC-Lake ID used to identify the lakes. As for the ARC-Lake Database, only data for a limited subset of lakes and time-steps can be viewed at any one time. Navigation of the lake-mean LSWT tables is the same as that for the ARC-Lake Database. Visualizations can also be generated through the "Visualise" menu, examples of which are given below.

Visualizations

The visualizations below were generated using the "Timeline" tool under the "Visualise" menu. Multiple lakes may be added to a plot by holding Ctrl when selecting the lake IDs to add from the "Value" box. The sliders at the bottom of the Timeline plots can be used to zoom into time-periods of interest.
